Okay, welcome to the storied human. This is Lynne Thompson, I'm going to do a short solo today, because I didn't have an interview this past weekend, and I do have something I want to talk to you about. I am kind of old, I'm turning 65 in a little bit like towards the end of March. And I literally got my Medicare card a couple of weeks ago. And today, when I went for my regular endocrinologist test for my thyroid, I go twice a year, I went to the same Quest Diagnostics lab. She looks up my record, and she says, Oh, it's bouncing back from your, from your insurance. And I said, Oh, well, I'll get my card out. And it occurred to me that my husband had pulled me off of his insurance. I'm only on there for dental and for vision. And I had to pull out my Medicare card.
00:01:16.620 --> 00:01:35.670
And believe me, the first time you pull out your Medicare card, you definitely do not feel young. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm excited about being on Medicare. I paid into it my whole life. It saves us some money, my husband's younger, and he still pays for his insurance.
00:01:31.920 --> 00:01:52.349
But pulling out that Medicare card really was a moment. And she said okay, we'll put this in and see if it goes. So I was actually thinking I should probably do an episode on Medicare. Because if it does apply to you, there's a lot you know, it will soon apply to you.
00:01:52.349 --> 00:01:56.189
There's a lot to learn. But anyway, talk about feeling old.
00:01:57.299 --> 00:02:10.469
But happy. I mean, I also get senior discounts and stuff. In fact, if you're 50 or over, you can join AARP and I just noticed they have tons of discounts.
00:02:05.790 --> 00:02:29.039
Benefits galore, you get 10% off at restaurants like the Bonefish grill and a lot of others I can't remember, but you get a lot of like travel discounts. I think I noticed online exercise classes. You don't have to be old. I mean, you just have to be 50. So it's a different world.
00:02:29.099 --> 00:02:31.680
I'm looking forward to retiring in a little bit.
00:02:33.180 --> 00:02:47.009
Yeah, I could do a whole podcast about that. But yeah, it was a moment. So when did you feel older? I mean, I, you can be young and you have those moments, right? I remember the first time I was carded, I felt really old.
00:02:48.870 --> 00:02:54.659
The first time I wasn't carded, sorry, the last time I was carded. I was 29 years old.
00:02:56.069 --> 00:03:09.389
And it was my birthday, I was buying a bottle of wine. And I almost kissed the guy behind the counter was like, that was a moment. But then I always felt old after that, because I never got carded again.
00:03:10.680 --> 00:03:17.729
So that's what we said. But there are great benefits to getting older. I'm noticing great benefits.
00:03:19.770 --> 00:03:22.349
And some aches and pains. But I'll take the benefits.
00:03:23.819 --> 00:03:51.719
One of which is you just don't care the same way about what people think, which is a lovely freedom, especially if you're a woman. Just don't give a you know what. So this is all I wanted to talk about my super short episode about feeling older and actually having Medicare and I truly am excited about having Medicare. I think it's a great privilege to live long enough to have it and to have worked enough to have it.
00:03:53.219 --> 00:04:00.870
There's no downside. So have a great day. And I hope it's warm where you are.
00:03:58.259 --> 00:04:00.870
It's not very warm here.
00:04:02.219 --> 00:04:05.069
And I'll talk to you soon on the story human. Thank you
